Sri Lanka vs England

Sri Lanka vs England first test 26th-30th may 2011

Farveez Maharoof has been named up to the Sri Lanka team for the 1st Test against England, following considerations around Dilhara Fernando’s wellness and fitness. Maharoof, who is actively playing state cricket for Lancashire, was not part of the primary 16-man Test team but played out the Sri Lankans’ 1st tour match, against Middlesex, since a number of of the Sri Lanka participants were still in India actively playing the IPL.

He has right now been called up as cover for Fernando for the 1st Test Sri Lanka vs England that starts off on May 26 in Cardiff, and supplied his form for Lancashire and his all-around expertise, he could end up playing his first Test ever since 2007, if Fernando is not fit. Maharoof started the season with a century on Lancashire debut and accompanied the tour game against Middlesex, in that he got two wickets, along with a four-wicket first-innings haul for Lancashire against Yorkshire.

Fernando is supposedly carrying a irritating pain in his knee but played thru it during the Sri Lankans’ victory vs England Lions in Derby. He took six wickets in the game.

Sri Lanka’s other seam-bowling choices are Nuwan Pradeep, Suranga Lakmal, Thisara Perera and Chanaka Welegedara. The uncapped Pradeep amazed in the match versus England Lions, taking four wickets in the second innings; Perera took four in the same game, while Lakmal and Welegedara got 3 and 5 wickets respectively in the match versus Middlesex.

Maharoof performed 20 Tests in between 2004 and / or 2007, and appeared to be a regular in Sri Lanka’s one-day side till early 2009 following which a combination of injuries and the introduction of Angelo Mathews as Sri Lanka’s most recognized allrounder retained him out of the country’s team. He formed a comeback during the 2010 Asia Cup but has not played any international cricket ever since.

Maharoof’s introduction in the Sri Lanka squad signifies he doesn’t quite get Lancashire’s getaway to Hampshire and is less likely to be obtainable for the next match versus Durham. First test match will take place between Sri lanka vs England.

England’s prospect of Sri lanka vs England

Eoin Morgan has brushed away inquiries concerning his determination to England and was adamant that Test cricket is his first concern. Morgan chose IPL riches with Kolkata Knight Riders more than first-class cricket with Middlesex this season but was named ahead of Ravi Bopara, who had chosen to get for Championship cricket rather, in England’s Test group to face Sri Lanka.i.e Sri Lanka vs England

On the eve of the group news, Morgan said he would return to the IPL if he wasn’t chosen but thanks to his 193 for England Lions vs Sri Lanka at Derby, he pipped Bopara to the No. 6 placement.

Despite Morgan’s addition in the squad, national selector Geoff Miller said he “will be having a chat to him with regards to what his goals are and make him aware of where we’re coming from.” Morgan, however, felt presently there was no difficulty.

“My main concerns are quite straightforward,” Morgan informed journalists. “Test match cricket arrives first and always has done. It’s why I take up the game, it’s exactly where everybody tests on their own and what anyone is judged on.”

In detailing why he would likely have went back to Kolkata if not picked out in the Test squad, Morgan said he had to complete his commitment and also that the experience gained at the IPL would certainly help his development more than playing Championship cricket would.

“If I wasn’t selected for the group I didn’t want to suspend around, dawdle and sense remorseful for me personally,” he said. “Selection one, I wanted to do some thing and number two, I was contractually required to go back out. I had no choice.

“The amount I learned last year just by playing 5 matches and staying out there for the next 3 weeks, practising each individual day and chaffing shoulders with tales of the match, did amazing figures for everybody. I felt the improvements I made in the calendar month or 2 out there would certainly exceed the four games I might play in local cricket.”

Morgan just made 137 in nine knocks for Kolkata this time of year and conceded his determination to go to the IPL could have backfired. “It was a chance, I realized that from the start off. You have to play in place to chuck yourself out there and do very well. For me it was a tough choice but it was the right one.”
